Two weeks ago, I published here and on slideshare.net a series of "back of the napkin" visual explanations of the health care debate. I created the napkins in order to myself understand the essentials of a public debate which had become more vicious than any in recent memory. I also hoped others might find them a useful baseline description of the issues.
The response has proven to me (again) the staggering power of simple pictures. Since I posted the slide show, it has been viewed more than 76,000 times, embedded in 265 other blogs, cited on the HuffingtonPost.com and prompted FOX News to ask me to explain on air what the debate is really about.
(On a side note, I find it interesting that FOX was the first network to call. My politics rarely align with those of the pundits appearing on FOX, so it was gratifying that they found the clarity of my napkins more compelling than any political slant. That's something to be especially optimistic about.)
As the government reconvenes in the next weeks, I'm sure health care will remain as contentious an issue as it was before vacation. I plan to create a second set of napkins as the debate heats up again. Watch for them here.

I'm a huge believer of the importance of design. I'm not so sure about design + marketing >> engineering. Design should incorporate engineering, not be opposed to it or somehow differentiated from it. It's important to remember that these are processes, not discrete elements

I work for a company as a consultant, so I report my income on a 1096. I recently took out a loan from that company which I already signed a note saying I will pay it back in a certain number of years. Do I need to report the loan on my income tax report next year?..

I bought and installed snow tires last year and threw out old tires since they were worn. In the spring, I bought new set of tires and have snow tires unmounted.
Now winter comes again. I want to have the old snow tires mounted. I heard somewhere that the rim cannot afford too many times of mounting and remounting. Is this true? Should I buy rims to go with the snow tires? What are the problems if I don't buy extra rims?
Thanks in advance.

I'm planning a vacation to St Thomas. How much spending money should I budget for each day. I don't plan on dining out expensively often, maybe once or twice, the rest will be like grocery shopping or fast food. I would like to do one or two activities like parasailing or snorkeling. Other than that it would be just money for alcoholic drinks and souvieners. How much money should I plan on bringing with me?

I am playing WoW on line and would like to get ahead of the common
herd. So my question here is,
Is it safe to buy gold on eBay for use on WoW? i.e. are the sales
genuine and will I get what I pay for?

September marks the beginning of the ecclesiastical year in the Eastern Orthodox Church.[citation needed] September begins on the same day of the week as December every year, because there are 91 days separating September and December,

I am trying to think of a title for a multidisciplinary studies major that I have come up with concentrating in health care...I am staying away from the clinical aspect (aka biology, chemistry, etc) but am taking anatomy and basic clinical lab science, and am staying away from management and administration. Any suggestions for a title for my major?
I have come up with a couple such as Health Care in Society, Community Health Studies

Healthcare the world over seems much more of an illusion, for far too many people that need it. My company http://www.smilemd.com is right now securing doctors and dentists for voluntary free clinics, for all those uninsureds throughout the USA, who still will not have insurance coverage, even after the dust settles on the great healthcare debate.
The irony of the issue that's left out of these debates we’re fighting this very moment is that most people in this country die from viruses that are freely contracted. Whatever then will all your money buy?

Well, it's not really just picture. You also outlined a great story, that's simple and makes sense. Smart, smart stuff here.

You never covered the option of reforming private insurance...that is, putting the consumer in charge of paying small fees for regular doctor visits...but using insurance for catastrophic coverage only...like we do with auto insurance. We pay for gas, tires, oil changes...but for expensive accidents, we have liability and property insurance.
Implementing reform to focus on getting consumers to pay for services that they use would transform the market and encourage competition to provide timely, inexpensive and focused care.
We already see this in some states like North Carolina (and others) that have consumer paid "critical care" drop in offices (for minor things...back pain, burns, rashes, coughs, fever...etc). It is very affordable and doesn't involve Insurance at all...
That, and reducing state mandates enabling consumers to buy exactly the coverage they want (ie what if I don't want HIV coverage?...or sex change coverage?...or mole removal coverage? In many states I *must* pay for these services...why!!??)...
And why not encourage a system that enables me to purchase Insurance from *where* I want? Currently I can only buy insurance from within my state...why??
I am just trying to point out that there is a *more* free market approach to what we have today! Which would a fraction of the proposals that you mention...and would unleash the free market to provide *exactly* what consumers want...and when they want it.

Just read your book during my lunch hour yesterday. As a both-brained project manager and graphic designer, I thoroughly enjoyed its simple power. I'm using its principles for my future presentations. Thanks.

Very cool! Congrats on exposure. I like how the napkins take away all the jargon and just say it as it simply is.
