Space elevator orbital launch platform

Space elevator orbital launch platform

AdAstra Magazine Spring 06 issue

Artist's impression of an orbital launch facility located at the 25,000 mile-marker on the space elevator. From this geosynchronous position, Lunar transport ships can be launched and recovered for a fraction of the cost of Earth-based launches.

In this scene, we see that the space elevator has grown to three tracks (one up, one down, one backup), each capped with a permanently inhabited living and servicing compartment and assembly-launch-recovery armature.

We also see an Apollo-derived CRV lunar transport departing for the moon. A second CRV is permanently docked at the platform to serve as emergency lifeboat.
